Richland Tri-Cities Restoration Services
Known as the Tri-Cities, Richland is a wonderful place to live. Richland is known for its pleasant weather and friendly community. Richland has a population of approximately 61,000 people who live in an area of about 40 square miles. It is located in southeastern Washington at the confluence of the Yakima and the Columbia Rivers. The Hanford Nuclear Reservation is located in Richland along the Columbia River. Chamna Natural Preserve and Riverview Natural Preserve are also located in this area of Richland.
History of Richland
In the first years of the 1900s, W.R. Amon and his song Howard purchased some land along the Columbia River. The town was named Richland after Nelson Rich and was officially registered with the Benton County Courthouse in 1906. It was incorporated on April 28, 1910. During World War II, the U.S. Army purchased much of Richland and some surrounding areas. They used Richland as a housing community for those who worked on the Manhattan Project at the Hanford Engineering site. The population grew from 300 to 25,000 during this time. The land was sold back to its residents in 1957.
