Port Kelley History
Before the area was settled by Scandinavians in 1888, Lewis and Clark were to have camped about one mile downstream of Port Kelley in 1805. During the gold rush years, Port Kelley became an important port as people travelled through by boat to Seattle and other cities. At some point, Pork Kelley was wiped away by Lake Wallula, the reservoir behind the McNary Dam. The location of today's Port Kelley doesn't have much to it, however in the middle of the Columbia River is a large island called "Lasts Island," with the Last homestead located at the downstream end.
