Ashwaubenon stems from the name of a brave and respected Ottawa Indian from the late 18th to early 19th centuries, known as Ashwaubomay, who found and safely returned a girl from the Menominee tribe, who was captured by the Chippewas. Ashwaubomay translates to “side-looks” in regard to how Chippewa women looked at him when he came looking for the captured girl.
Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin is a 12.86 square mile city, which plays home to over 17,000 people. Moreover, and perhaps the pride of Ashwaubenon, is that it plays home to Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers. With this structure being built and opened in 1957, Ashwaubenon has the third-oldest stadium in professional sports.
Besides spending time by Lambeau Field or the newly founded Titletown District, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy in Ashwaubenon. For one, Ashwaubenon is known for its many parks and playgrounds, as there are 23 parks totaling 300 acres. Furthermore, Ashwaubenon is home to the National Railroad Museum. The NRM beats out Lambeau Field by one year, as it was founded in 1956 and hosts over 70 “rolling stock” items, with around 100,000 small artifacts representing railroad history. The museum can entertain over 100,000 visitors annually with 200+ volunteers and 11 trusted board members.
For more information on the National Railroad Museum, please see their website at https://nationalrrmuseum.org/.
Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin is also a growing city with plenty of expansion projects that are either already finished or currently well underway. A good example is the previously mentioned Titletown District, as well as the Resch Center, now known as the Resch Complex or Resch Expo, with multiple renovations over the last three years. But Ashwaubenon currently has seven development projects in the works, including new housing, a hotel, a hospital and surgery center, not to mention a commercial expansion on one of Green Bay’s most historical companies, Green Bay Packaging.
