Washougal is in Clark County, Washington. On April 1st, 2010, the population was 14,095. Washougal is located 18 miles east of Vancouver. The city has a total of 6.30 square miles. 5.42 square miles is land and 0.88 square miles is water.
Washougal is located on the Washington side of the Columbia River on the west entrance to the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Visitors who travel to Washougal on the Lewis and Clark Highway are impressed with the view of Mount Hood peeking above the Cascade Mountains. The view of the cliffs signal the gateway of the Gorge. The beauty of Washougal has inspired many explorers. Washougal is the “crossroads to discovery” in the Pacific Northwest. In May, 1792, Captain Robert Gray discovered the mouth of the Columbia River.
Washougal has a mild climate with an average of 50 inches of rain yearly. Roughly five days of measurable snow or ice exist. The banks of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area borders Washougal to the east and is a popular tourist and wind surfing area. The Washougal River is a 33 mile river that joins the Columbia River, and is known for excellent fishing. Washougal is home to the Washougal Motocross Park and is nationally known for dirt bike competitions. Also located in Washougal is Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge full of natural wildlife.
Washougal is at constant risk for wildland fire exposure. In 2022, a portion of Washougal residents were evacuated knowing the wildland fire could pose risk to the residents. Despite planning and preventive maintenance, things occur out of your control. In the past year we experience three separate/unrelated events which required immediate mitigation. On all three events Tim and his team at SERVPRO saved our bacon, making the experiences far less stressful for my staff and our Residents. During our most recent event Tim answered his phone and was out to our building, along with his assistant, within an hour to begin assessing our situation. Within 2 hours Tim had a mitigation crew working on clean-up. Given the nature and extent of the event we were realistic that it could take into the following afternoon to get the place back to operating condition. However, Tim's crew was somehow able to get the place back up and ready before the end of the business day. They were incredibly thorough. In addition, his crew was exceptionally friendly and great to work with throughout their time onsite. When the invoice arrived I felt the price was very fair---especially considering the quality of work and response time. Two of the events involved insurance claims, which Tim and his team at SERVPRO managed directly, saving us time and stress. If you're a business owner, or any kind of property owner, I strongly recommend reaching out to this SERVPRO office and setting things up in advance, just to be safe. You will be glad you did. I cannot recommend these folks enough.
