Located just to the east of Portsmouth on the other side of the Elizabeth River sits the town of South Norfolk. Despite its name, South Norfolk isn’t actually a park of the City of Norfolk, but instead is located in the City of Chesapeake. Originally the area was a part of Norfolk County, but quickly became its own independent city after a few years. After a lot of expansion following World War II, Norfolk County and the City of South Norfolk combined into what is now known as Chesapeake in 1963.
