As the second oldest continuously inhabited English settlement in the United States after Hampton, Virginia, the City Point area of Hopewell was established in 1613 by Sir Thomas Dale. As such, the area is steeped in our country’s history and served as an important area in some of its most pivotal moments. During the Siege of Petersburg, Appomattox manor, one of three major plantations in the area, was used as the headquarters for Ulysses S. Grant and was visited by President Lincoln. Along with visiting the various historical sites like the Pamplin Historical Park and Weston Manor, there’s plenty to do and see in Hopewell. For example, you can head to The Beacon Theatre, a historic music venue built in the 1920s, or take a walk on the Hopewell River Walk and take in the gorgeous views of the Appomattox River. The mitigation team led by Keith Boos worked with my husband and me to clean up water damage in seven rooms in our house. At the time this occurred, we were on vacation in Spain.
