In 1858, Turner’s Point was created after the establishment of a post office and school in the area. The town was later renamed Poetry, named so by a local merchant who said the area in springtime reminded him of a poem. While the population would fluctuate and eventually peaked at around 234 people in 1904, nowadays it’s a widely dispersed, lightly populated community of around 2,069 (as of the 2020 Census). Being on the northern edge of Kaufman County means Poetry is in close proximity to many different areas. Places such as the Springs Event Venue and the RW Trophy Ranch prove to be popular spots for residents and visitors. Hopefully in the future this small town will continue to grow and prove to be the picturesque powerhouse that it was named for!
