Wartrace is a town located in Bedford County Tennessee. It has a population of 653 residents according to the 2020 census. Downtown Wartrace is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Wartrace Historic District. Some of the notable historic structures in the Wartrace Historic District are Bethsalem Community Chapel, the Wartrace General Store, the Caboose Museum, Perfection Leather, and the Walking Horse Hotel. Perfection Leather is most known for making saddles for the first three National Champion Tennessee Walking Horses as well as the bridle used by Bonnie Blue Butler's pony in the world renowned film Gone with the Wind from 1939. The Caboose Museum houses artifacts and relics from the railroad that runs through Wartrace, which is still under part time operation by the Walking Horse and Eastern Railroad. Wartrace is also home to Cascade K-5, Cascade Middle School, and Cascade High School. One of the most well known residents of Wartrace was actress Sandra Louise Anderson, also known as Sondra Locke. Sondra was an Academy Award-nominated actress that lived on Horse Mountain Road in Wartrace and was best known for her work along side well known western actors such as Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josey Wales and John Wayne in True Grit.
With a total area of less than a mile (0.88 square miles), Wartrace is a typical southern small town. With downtown registered as a national historic place, Unionville is the picture of southern charm. With that charm in mind, you should always be prepared for disaster to strike. I had a tree go through my roof in the middle of a storm and after calling SERVPRO, they were at my house within a couple hours to start removing the water and water damaged items. Not only was the job completed, every person I worked with was professional and nice and very accommodating to My circumstances. Without a doubt I can say they are honest and extremely professional. I would recommend them a thousand times over.
