Shaw Air Force Base is located right outside downtown Sumter and is one of the largest military bases in the United States. It is named after one of the first Americans to fly combat missions in World War I, Ervin David Shaw. It is not only a flying school and training facility, but it is also the community where military families live and work. It is home to around 5,400 military members and their families, as well as more than 600 civilian employees.
The Falcon Nest is a family campground within the base boundaries that offers a quick getaway for families, and the Carolina Lakes Golf Course is a great course to play a round between training sessions. There are also various parks and nature trails to enjoy, including the Chapel Trail.

I cannot say enough for their professionalism or how much they were such great people to work with. They explained everything when they were leaving and returning as it was about a full day's project.
