About Parris Island, South Carolina
Parris Island, South Carolina is known for being home to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. It is located on an island of the same name in Beaufort County, which is named after French-borne Royal Governor James Oglethorpe's Secretary of State Henry, who was elevated to Earl of Desborough by King George II in 1738. Parris Island was founded in 1915, but no one has ever set foot on it - it is reserved exclusively for Marines and their families.

Parris Island, located near Beaufort, South Carolina and 15 miles south of Savannah, Georgia in the Atlantic Ocean, it is one of the most historically significant areas in the United States. Parris Island is considered to be the birth place of the Marine Corps, where all Marines train for their first three weeks after boot-camp. The Marine Corps also has its own naval air station on Parris Island. Parris Island was named for Major General Samuel Parris; he was born in Beaufort County, South Carolina. He died in 1780 during a siege at Fort Washington (now Yonkers), New York.
