Breinigsville is a community in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. It is located 11 miles southwest of the state’s third-largest city, Allentown.
Breinigsville is named after George Ludwig Breinig, a German immigrant. Breining arrived in Philadelphia in 1749 and initially settled in Weisenberg Township. In 1771, he purchased around 100 acres of land from Peter and Catherine Trexler of Trexlertown. During the Revolutionary War, Breinig was Colonel of the Second Battalion of Northampton County militia. In 1786, he was commissioned as a justice of the district of Macungie and Weisenberg townships.
In the early 1800s, Breinigsville was a center for iron ore mining. At one time, the village had a lumber, grain, and coal depot, and a carriage works. Today the community is home to several large companies, including Amazon, Nestle Waters, and a major Samuel Adams brewery. There are also a number of local wineries and vineyards.
Breinigsville has a number of parks, playgrounds, and attractions. The Valley Preferred Cycling Center - one of the most well-known cycling stadiums in the country- is located between Breinigsville and neighboring Trexlertown. Terry Hill Waterpark and Campgrounds is a popular local vacation spot.
