Located along the south coast of the Columbia River, Prescott is known for its history of wood milling. In 1883, the sawmill was established and created the pull into the area for people seeking work. Originally the sawmill workers lived in an area of Prescott known as Danby Landing. This small town boasts a population of fewer than 100 individuals today. The popular Prescott Beach State Park is widely utilized as a local fishing spot as this channel merges the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean which spans a mile-long stretch between miles 71 and 72 of the Columbia River. Prescott Beach State Park covers 71 acres of land within the opening of the Columbia Gorge. Famously in November of 1805 during the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Lewis and Clark camped out along the Prescott Beach.
