One of Oregon’s jewels located snuggly between the Saddle Mountain State Area and the Clatsop State Forest – Jewell, Oregon offers their residents and small community the surroundings of classic Oregon beauty. Jewell is known for its record breaking Bigleaf Maple with a height of 101 feet and spread out 90 feet across. These protected areas of wildlife are such an essential part of Oregon’s ecosystem and what brings so many out of state visitors every year. Featuring a nature reserve, Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area houses some of Oregon’s Roosevelt elk who are the largest subspecies of elk west of the Cascades. Jewell spans nearly 300 square miles and with a population of less than 1,000 residents and has a single school for grades K-12.

With fast action from the Forestry Department and Fire Department, they were able to stop the spread and extinguish the fire.
