Patterson is located in Putnam County in New York State. The town was initially settled by Europeans around 1720 and named Frederickstown at the time. In 1795, the town was split, and the town of Frederickstpen was renamed, becoming Franklin. It was then renamed again in 1808, taking on the current name of Patterson.
