The history of Stratford, NJ, is that the township became a part of Gloucester Township in 1871.
On July 7, 1877, the Philadelphia and Atlantic City Railway line was opened. Running along Atlantic Avenue, with a stop in the soon to be developed, village of Stratford, NJ.
In 1888, entrepreneurs from Camden, realized the potential of development frequented by vacationers and travelers. They purchased, at the time, Gloucester Township Farmlands, and formed the plans for a village named Stratford, NJ. Which included the first Railroad Train trolley service created on July 1, 1854, to transport the Philadelphian wealthy and middle-class populations from Camden to Atlantic City, with a stop at the village of White Horse.
In 1925, the Borough of Stratford was created, and currently holds Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine campus, located on Laurel Road. The SOM Campus currently accepts around 750 medical students each year. This is a very busy location!
