The Borough of Rumson was created in 1907. Legend has it that the borough's name is derived from early European settlers who bought the land from the local Lenape Native Americans in exchange for some rum. As far back as 1663, long before the area was officially named Rumson, Native Americans called it "Navarumsunk". Over the years it has been shortened to "Rumson", though sources also talk of a Chief Alumson as a source of the name. Other names Rumson has been known by include Black Point, Port Washington, and Oceanic.
Rumson has a cute downtown area with several nice restaurants and shops. The high school, Rumson-Fair Haven High School, is located near the center of town and is a beautiful facility. The area is situated on a peninsula between the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers and was once home to many summer estates belonging to wealthy NY bankers and industrialists. I can not thank the staff of Eatontown SERVPRO enough for the amazing job they did completely redoing our townhouse after damage. They were able to start work immediately and worked tirelessly to make it like the damage never even happened. The work was quality and Frank went above and beyond to help us through a stressful time by taking all the responsibility and coordinating plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, flooring, and mold and debris removal. I highly recommend the team as well as as they were a joy to work with. They were able to fix a very difficult situation and make the process very easy for me. Thank you again!
