The townsite of Ralston was established on May 23, 1907 with the sale of 282.7 acres of land owned by Omaha newspaper editor George L Miller to Ralston Investment Company. Two years later in 1909 the post office was built. They considered Ralston a rural town at the time. Later on March 23, 1913 a devastating tornado ripped through the downtown area destroying everything in its path. SERVPRO is a great company to deal with tornadoes or severe weather. Restoration is their main focus. In 1934 Ralston had experienced a fire that blazed a whole city block. With that fire, SERVPRO is a great company that focuses on fire restoration. Following that fire Ralston had to file for bankruptcy, which was the first city in the United States to do so.
In 1954, they opened Ralston High School. After a few years the old high school building was converted to the middle school. In 2006, Ralston High School's enrollment jumped from 850 students to 1090 students, and is becoming a more diverse school by the day. Ralston now has two elementary schools, one middle school, and a private grade school. Adding to the town they decided to open Ralston Arena in 2012 which is home of the Lancers Hockey team, the Omaha Beef indoor football team, and UNO Mavericks men’s basketball team until Baxter arena opened in 2015.
