Bethania, North Carolina, is a national historic landmark. They were founded in 1759 as a self-sufficient farming community that allowed both Moravian and non-Moravian settlers. The town was designed by Surveyor Christian Philip and is the only sample of a European Style "open field" agricultural village remaining in North Carolina. It is also the oldest municipality in Forsyth County, and it is listed on the North Carolina State Historic Register of Places.
Bethania's rich history can be further researched at the Historic Bethania Visitor's Center located on South Main Street. There you can get a self-directed tour map and see these beautifully preserved homes and storefronts.
