Holly Springs is a city in, and the county seat, of Marshall County, Mississippi. Holly Springs is 20 minutes south of the Tennessee border and just on the edge of the Holly Springs National Forest. With its close proximity to the Mississippi River, this area was developed by the European Americans for cotton plantations. After the Civil War, many freedmen stayed in the area to continue to work in agriculture as sharecroppers and tenant farmers.
As the county seat, Holly Springs is in the center of the trade and court sessions. This area still has some of the historic properties from over 100 years ago and has several of them in the National Register of Historic Places, as well as creating a historic district that includes places like the Southwest Holly Springs Historic District. Located just outside of town is the Hillcrest Cemetery which contains the graves of five Confederate generals, and has been called “Little Arlington of the South”.
In 1855 Holly Springs was connected to Grand Junction, Tennessee by the Mississippi Central Railway. Toward the end of the 19th century, the Kansas City, Memphis, and Birmingham Railroad was constructed to intersect this line in Holly Springs. This allowed the Holly Springs farmers to get their products to many further destinations than were previously possible.
The Holly Spring’s climate is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally cool to mild winters. The record high is 106F and the low is -12. Flooding can also be a problem with the town being so close to the Mississippi River and the smaller creeks and rivers that flow into it.
The city was hit with a massive EF4 tornado in 2015 that caused serious wind and water damage, as well as fire damage due to downed power lines.

SERVPRO had someone there to assess within the hour AND had us repaired and power within 24 hours!! GREAT JOB GUYS!
