Forest is located in the South Central region of Scott County. The Mississippi-Alabama Railroad constructed an east- west route through the area in 1855, which helped to incorporate it as a town in 1860. Forest is the county seat of Scott County; in 1930 Governor Theodore G. Bilbo updated the Town of Forest to The City of Forest. The way of life was farming; the early settlers grew row crops for food and fields of cotton to sell. Forest has an abundance of history to admire from the historic post office that was constructed by the Federal Treasury Department or the Public Library. There are wonderful things to experience in Forest such as, The Bienville Pines Scenic area, golfing at the Cherry Hill Golf Course, Gaddis Park or shopping at the Village Square Shopping Center. The most important thing is not to forget about the Wing Wang Doodle Event hosted in September, there will be arts and crafts, an antique tractor show and chicken crowing contest. Admission is free!
