Storm Damage Restoration

On June 16, 2014 a tornado struck the area near the UW- Platteville campus in Platteville, WI. Two of the building that were damaged were owned by the UW-Platteville Real Estate Foundation. These were residence hall building that had been opened in 2012 and 2013. Both buildings suffered storm damage from the tornado that caused broken glass and water everywhere. Since were less than 80 days before the buildings would be needed to house over 1,000 students for the Fall semester we knew we needed to move fast.

The local SERVPRO team was called and arrived on scene at one of our buildings in less than 2 hours to evaluate the situation. Since time was short and there was much to be done, a recommendation to call in a second SERVPRO team was made. The second team was mobilized and began arriving within 24 hours of notification. Curt McKnelly the manager of the second team was given the clean up responsibly of our largest building which housed 440 students and the main campus dining facility. Curt quickly assessed the situation and understanding the time constraints we were under, began to take action. In the hectic days following the event he and his team moved quickly to get the water and glass out of the building. Using SERVPRO’s nation wide power, personnel and equipment was brought in from all over the area.

The efforts of the SERVPRO team allowed for the building to be cleansed and turned over to our General Contractor for rebuilding. In less than 70 days the building was declared ready for occupancy and 73 days after the event students began moving back into the buildings and meals were being served in the dining facility. Most of the students now living in the building were not impacted by extraordinary effort that took place over the summer it was truly as though it had never really happened.

In April of 2013, the operations of Morris Hospital were severely impacted by sudden storm flooding of our campus. The water breached our loading dock and we sustained several inches of water throughout out lower level. SERVPRO came in quickly yet systematically and got us back to business in short order. They were well organized and provided us with the level of expertise we needed to handle this type of emergency. They quickly assessed our situation, made their recommendations, and mobilized the equipment and workforce necessary to get the job done quickly and effectively. All members of SERVPRO staff were professional, responsive and communicated well with us throughout the project.

Tommy and his team did an amazing job at our house. Our whole basement flooded and was a disaster. They left our basement dry and sanitized within the day. They left behind industrial fans and dehumidifiers to help with any residual moisture that would seep in after to prevent any mold. They were prompt, friendly, and most of all hard workers.
