Howell MI is in Livingston County and holds the title of being the largest city in Livingston County. Howell was founded in 1836. Howell offers a great quaint downtown feel with many historic buildings lining its Main St area. The Main St area of downtown Howell offers a variety of shopping and dining. Howell hosts many festivals throughout the varying seasons. From the first Sunday in May to the last in October you can visit a Farmer’s Market between 9 am and 2 pm. The Livingston County Courthouse sets a nice background for the local produce, plants, flowers and local crafters. Beginning in 1960, Howell started hosting the Melon Festival. The Melon Festival celebrates the famous and delicious cantaloupe grown only in Howell. Last but not least, to kick off the holiday season Howell hosts the Fantasy of Lights. Each entry into the Fantasy of Lights must be luminated with a minimum of 5,000 holiday lights. The event attracts up to 30,000 spectators! You can also enjoy festivities such as cookie decorating, visits with Santa and some fun with reindeer.
In 2018, Howell won the “Great American Main Street” award. Winning this award makes it clear that Howell takes their slogan “Every Day is an Event” very seriously.
