History of Wiscasset
Wiscasset is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States. Wiscasset is the town that ships love to call home. It is known as the “port of ships” because of its location on the Sheepscot River and its harbor. The city’s history dates back to 1668 when it was first settled by Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in 1711 and built homes along the Sheepscot River. The area's settlers fished, farmed and hunted to survive. In time they built stores, saw mills and churches which helped them grow their businesses and develop into a strong community.
