Ijamsville began as a mining town and transitioned to agriculture, later becoming a residential suburb of nearby Frederick and Baltimore. In 1785, a Welsh man, Plummer Ijams, purchased land from the government and established a plantation. The town of Ijamsville developed with the construction of the B&O Railroad and slate mining in the 19th century. Today, it is a thriving community in the Frederick County area.
The Fingerboard Farmers Market, located at 10240 Fingerboard Road, is open Monday through Saturday from 12 to 4 pm Visitors can purchase handcrafted goods, fresh, locally grown produce, and seasonal specials. There are often unique market surprises with something for everyone.
Green Meadows Petting Farm's Fall Pumpkin Patch opens on October 1st and closes on October 31st. Admission is from 10 am to 3 pm, and all paid admissions include a pumpkin. They also hold regular events—Barnyard, Band & Booze—on the following dates: June 6th, July 5th, August 1st, September 5th, and October 3rd. The gates open at 5:30 pm, weather permitting.
