The city of Ferguson has rich beginnings and is now a destination visit for many in the Pulaski County area. Ferguson began as a railroad community that supported the workers for the Cincinnati Southern Railroad and its engine repair shops. It actually started out with the name of Luretha, but was officially changed to Ferguson in 1950 in honor of Edward A. Ferguson, who was known as The Father of the Railway.
