Harvard Cleanup and Restoration

Since the city’s creation in 1856, Harvard has displayed its communal sense of work ethic and compassion. Early founders saw great opportunity for farming because of the area’s ideal landscape and soil. After receiving recognition of their new town, the focus became utilizing the nearby trains as a means to export their goods. Before long, Harvard was a hub of corn and dairy production. Agricultural success displayed the town’s work ethic, while community actions during war time proved their compassion. During the Civil War, community members offered housing and free meals to sick and wounded soldiers. By World War II, the town was so efficient in producing dairy products they would graciously send milk to those in need. jThis wonderful history is still celebrated today with Harvard’s “Milk Days,” Illinois’ oldest annual celebration and parade of this great city’s effort and success.
