The pioneer village was established in the fall of 1869. Later renamed Malvern. Malvern, Iowa is one of the four communities in the area that existed during the completion of the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad. John D. Paddock and his bride were the first people to settle in Malvern. They arrived in September and built a small 1 ½ story building that was their home and also the community’s first store. Malvern grew exceptionally in the first two years. Its fifth year Mr. Paddock reported its population of 800. Soon the town of Malvern had a number of factories. The success of the Malvern community was linked to the success of farming. In the 60’s, 70’s, and especially the 80’s the economy of Malvern suffered because there were not as many farms or workers to do the work.
In 2021, a historical building in Malvern was engulfed in flames. They had several crews in surrounding areas come help contain the fire and water down the hot spots. Obviously causing water damage and fire damage the experts of SERVPRO would be the ones to call. The Mills County Fair in Malvern, Iowa is a big hit each year. Activities beginning on Friday and lasting all weekend there are many things to do and eat there. 4-H dog and sheep shows and cornhole tournaments are the 2 main things going on Friday. Other activities to choose from are a goat show, ugly cake contest, and a pet show.
