Located on Lake Allatoona in southeastern Bartow County, Red Top spans over 1,562 acres and has more than fifteen miles of wooded trails for patrons to explore and enjoy. If camping is your thing, Red Top has over ninety-three campsites where you can pitch a tent, park your camper or hookup your RV. There are also tons of other accommodations that make this park great like several picnic shelters, playgrounds, boat ramps and boat docks. Named for its iconic red soil, Red Top Mountain is about 1,060 ft above sea level at its highest point. The red soil is a byproduct of high iron ore content. The park was created in the late 1940’s alongside the construction of the Allatoona Dam. Originally there was an additional park created alongside Red Top called George Washington Carver State Park (created by John Atkinson - a U.S. Air Force pilot from Tuskegee), which was eventually merged into Red Top Mountain State Park in 1958.
