Andersonville is a city that you find in Sumter County with a small population of just 237. It is located in the southwest part of the state around 60 miles southwest of the more well-known Macon, Georgia. Being near the Central of Georgia Railroad is how many direct non-locals to the area as a point of reference. During the American Civil War, Andersonville was the site for a prisoner-of-war-camp- now made a historic tourist attraction. When you visit this area, it is like stepping back in time. The Drummer Boy Civil War Museum on the main street is a must-see collection of authentic uniforms (both Union and Confederate), revolvers, carbines and muskets. The Village also boasts a 6-acre Pioneer Farm with operating Grist Mill, a 130-year-old log cabin, and many more period buildings in a natural setting. Village Hall and St. James Pennington Church on the main street makes a wonderful backdrop for destination weddings, family reunions or business meetings.
Although this is a small area, with an even smaller population, the attractions and the residents get as much of our dedication as any large areas surrounding. She was always supportive and encouraging. She was knowledgeable about things that I didn’t even know enough to have questions about. He answered my MANY questions over the almost 8 months, and he did a superb job of putting my house back together better than ever. You would never know there was a fire in my house and I am grateful for all the many kindnesses, and skill of Josh and his construction crew.
