HISTORY OF ADRIAN
Located on the banks of the Ohooppee River is a small city know as Adrian. It was first incorporated in 1899, but didn’t really begin to grow until Postmaster W.R Smith opened a post office in the center of town in 1891. The city flourished after this and shortly after became a hub for trading and the railroad. The city of Adrian actually happens to be split between Emanuel and Johnson counties. This was the result of two landowners getting into a disagreement regarding who was going to build a bridge crossing over the Ohooppee River. Ultimately, the landowner who didn’t win was enraged & went to a local legislator to encourage him to create a new county line. Thus, resulting in the city being split between two counties. The city itself only consists of about 670 residents.
