The Seaboard Air Line Railroad extended its reach in 1927, and that same year the Tamiami Trail linked Naples to Miami. The original Naples Municipal Airport was built during World War II as a US Army Air Force training field; it has been in operation since 1947 for general aviation purposes but is now used almost exclusively by private pilots
