Kathleen, Florida is a city in Osceola County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,070. The city name comes from Kathleen Wilson, the daughter of George Wilson and Mary Knechtel Wilson (of the Pine Castle Penny Savings Bank). We have a vibrant downtown area with lots of restaurants and shopping, especially in the summertime. The weather is beautiful most of the year, with palm trees swaying in the ocean breeze. There is plenty on our small but charming beaches to keep you from getting bored!
History of Kathleen
The area was home to Native Americans nearly 1000 years ago, who eventually found their way onto land that would eventually become Kathleen, Florida. The European settlement of Kathleen begins in 1885 when a group of pioneers established a colony on the Suwannee River. The colony was sparsely populated, with little vegetation and few trees. The early settlers were mostly from North Carolina and Alabama, and probably had no idea what to expect when they traveled to the new land. But despite the hardships, these courageous pioneers continued to work hard to make Kathleen what it is today.
