History of Valmont
The land around the confluence of the Big Thompson and St. Vrain Rivers was a natural for settlement. It was here that trappers and traders came to find beaver pelts, buffalo hides and other trade goods. Early homesteaders began arriving in 1873, but they weren’t alone. Valmont, Colorado was settled in 1874 by settlers from southern New York. The town became a town in 1886 when it was incorporated as the Village of Valmont. In 1968, the town went through another name change to become Valmont.
