Rooney Valley Cleanup and Restoration

Alexander Rooney established Rooney Ranch in 1861; the Rooney Valley Trail and other areas opened to visitors quickly; our Rooney Valley neighborhoods are a result of this businessman’s purchase. One mountain-biking enthusiast posted photos of the trails online, claiming that they alone are worth purchasing mountain bikes for. 

We get it; the area is stunning. The trails close when the weather is prohibitive. Given the vagaries of snow, ice, and melting patterns, it’s hard to predict when the trails whether the trails will be dry, muddy, or impassable. Hikers and bikers take their (our!) chances; sometimes the trails are crowded; sometimes they offer solitude. Some visitors describe the twists and turns of the trail as more fun for bikers than hikers, but if you’re not running, it’s all good. 

Since we are in a tundra, there is little tree cover; if you need shade, wear a hat! You should wear a hat anyway; it protects your eyes and your scalp. The views of red rocks, cliffs, and Denver are spectacular, so be grateful for the lack of obscuring tree cover. 

While Rooney Valley is within Lakewood, it is as distinct from Lakewood as the various metropolitan areas from Denver.  

Homeowners in the area appreciate the trails as well as the scenery from home. It’s a great place to live.
