The city of Tontitown was founded in 1898 by Italian settlers. The city is in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Tontitown is best known for its Grape Festival that has been held continuously since 1898. The city has experienced significant population growth between the 2000 and 2020. With the increase in housing units, fire damage restoration services are more essential to the city.
Pietro Bandini, a Catholic priest, led the first Italian settlers to northwest Arkansas. The terrain and climate reminded the settlers of their native Northern Italy. There were 35 families that initially settled here. Each family planted gardens and vineyards on their 10-acre plot. By 1909 the community had grown to 1,400-acres. It was in this year the community incorporated. Father Bandini was elected mayor. The town was named for Henri de Tonti, the Italian explorer.
The harvest of August of 1898 provided a time to celebrate with a mass of Thanksgiving. The settlers sang and danced. The tastiest meals, that the harvest would allow, were served. From this first celebration, stemmed the Tontitown Festival of today. Holding the festival every year, by the 1920s the festival had grown to include Holy Mass, booths, games, a carnival, a dance, and of course wonderful Italian food. In 1932, Tontitown began to serve the famous Italian Spaghetti dinners to the public.
The population of 4,301 people, according to the 2020 United States census, has grown 356% from 2000 when the population was 942 people. The need for water damage restoration has continued to increase as the population grows.
