Located on the Arkansas-Oklahoma border, near the junction of interstates 40 and 540, Fort Smith, Arkansas, was founded in 1817 as a military post by the United States. Used a base during the Mexican War, Fort Smith became a bustling community located just across the river from Indian Territory. Later in 1941, the U.S. Army established the Fort Chaffee Military Reservation east of the city. They also made sure to protect and box up other belongings in the area to keep them out of the way of the mess and accounted for.
They took time to explain the process and make sure we were comfortable each step of the way.
