The quaint town of Scottsboro, AL is located within Jackson County, just 20 miles from the Tennessee state line in northeastern Alabama, situated near the Tennessee River, and about 40 miles east of Huntsville. Named for its founder Robert T. Scott, the city has a population of 14,375 people. Located on Courthouse Square, Payne's Soda Fountain has been in business since 1869 and has been in its current location on the northwest corner of the Square since 1891. On the old Memphis and Charleston Railroad near the public square, the freight depot still stands. Built in 1861, it is considered the oldest standing structure in the original Scottsboro city limits. Situated near downtown Scottsboro is King Caldwell Park, named after Scottsboro native and philanthropist, David "King Caldwell". The Goose Pond area has seen recent development of communities centered around a lake-living lifestyle.
